Thank God for Me When You Get a Chance!

I think the scariest moment ever in my mom-hood (if not my entire life) happened Wednesday. See, Madison has this little "game" she likes to play. It is a more advanced version of peek-a-boo. She will run away from us and shut herself into a room. Then she opens the door and says "PEEK-A-BOO!!" We have scolded her repeatedly and she has had many a time out. Well, now there are gates up in the 2 rooms that pose real dangers to her... hindsight is 20/20, right? Anyway, Weds afternoon, she ran down the hallway at top speed an shut herself into my bedroom. I walked down the hall behind her, frustrated but not really in a rush as I am expecting her to pop the door open and say peek-a-boo to me. Right before I opened the door I hear a huge crash and an awful scream. My heart stopped beating. I opened the door and Madison is laying on the floor. Hovering over her, stopped only by 2 drawers that only came halfway out, is our dresser. The worst part of this is that off to the side is our 19 inch television that we had put temporarily on top of the dresser. She escaped with a bruised face and scratched foot. One of the drawers scratched her foot, and I am assuming that the flashlight that was on top of the dresser by the tv hit her face. I can only guess that is what happened, because if the dresser or one of the drawers had hit her she would have been cut or scratched at least. More than just a bump and a bruise, you know? Anyway... there is only one explanation that puts the tv off to the side instead of right on top of her, and that is that her guardian angel physically pushed the television out of the way. The dresser fell straight forward, but the tv fell to the side. Once I had her calmed down and I was convinced that no really serious damage had been done, I asked her how it happened. She tried climbing the dresser to turn the tv on. Sheesh. As I said, the room is now gated off, but as an extra precaution, the tv has been moved to a much lower height so that if she were to get in there and want to turn on the tv, she could do so. So please... thank God that my daughter is still here with us today. I read in Thursday morning's Indy Star that just hours before this happened a little 2 year old girl in Indy wasn't so lucky. She lost her life after pulling a 36 inch tv on top of her. I'm so sad for that family, especially knowing how easily it could be me mourning today. What an awful lesson to have to learn... you just don't think these things can happen to you, but they can!

Hehe....

How cute is she? She loves that costume and wants to wear it every day! I've decided, though, that since the Backyardigans are so popular, and many kids will probably be Uniqua... we are going one step further and dressing Uniqua in one of her make-believe characters. So... Madison is going to wear an eyepatch and be pirate Uniqua! LOL! That is if she will keep the eye patch on... we don't have it yet, so I don't know how well that will work. Hehe!
